Trans Pride Brighton: What’s on and How to Celebrate

July 14, 2022

Last week saw over 20,000 people march through the capital for Trans+ Pride London. In a time of relentless transphobia from the media and government alike, it’s never been more vital for us to come together as a community and push for trans liberation. This weekend, Trans Pride Brighton will be taking place and will be a crucial celebration of trans lives and gender diversity.

Being one of the very first trans Prides in the UK, it’s been going since 2013 and is the biggest trans event in the country. Trans Pride Brighton is a grass-roots, community-led organization run and stands as a must for those wanting to show up visibly in their allyship. With a weekend packed with events, we’ve put together the highlights to go straight into your calendar:

Kick off the celebration on Friday with Transome, taking place at Komedia. With all proceeds going towards gender-affirming fundraisers, it’s a brilliant way to support the local trans community and celebrate trans joy all at once. The event also features an all-trans lineup including DJ Xzan and JUNIPR. Tickets are available here and start from £5.50.

On Saturday, the official Trans Pride march will be starting at Jubilee Square (near Brighton Library & The Ledward Centre) at 11:30am to set off at midday. If you prefer a shorter walk you can start at Metropole Hotel and will end at Brunswick Square gardens for a celebration in the park. The march and park party are free to attend and if you can’t make it down, tune into Trans Radio UK which will be broadcasting the event live throughout the day.

Following the park party, Tramfrau is hosting the official after-party. Kicking off at 7:30pm at the Concord2 it’ll start with food on the terrace and they’re encouraging everyone to come straight from the park party and enjoy dinner with the community. Then from 9pm until late, they promise “more DJs, shows, art, and dancing than you can possibly imagine in your wildest dreams!” With an incredible lineup including Travis Alabanza, DJ Xzan, Subira Joy and more.

Tickets start from £12 and are likely to sell out, plus they offer free tickets to those who the cost would be a barrier as well as for carers.

Then Sunday, Trans Pride organizers will be putting on a casual beach party, bringing together the community. The event will be free to attend with details to be shared here.

Brighton Trans Pride is a community-led not-for-profit organization that creates a safe space where trans people, friends, allies and family can meet and come together. Consider donating to support them in making this a reality.
