Presenter Trisha Goddard has shared insights she’s gained from having a non-binary child.
In an interview with Steve Denyer for Virgin Radio’s ‘My Pride Playlist’, the TalkTV presenter and former host of the ‘Trisha' talk show disclosed that her youngest child identifies as non-binary.
Throughout the conversation, as ‘Virgin Radio’, writes, Goddard reflected on the significant lessons she has learned about trans and non-binary identities through her child and her many friends within the queer community. “As a parent, I am still learning,” the former ‘Playschool’ host acknowledged, noting that she has gained much understanding as she supported her child through challenges, including bullying, to embracing their queer identity.
“Their sister and I are still learning,” she continued. “I often make mistakes, but they have gone from being upset with me to understanding that I’m doing my best—as long as I am doing my best.”

Goddard also shared with Steve about a mixed-race gay couple she met in the mid-90s in New Zealand who became “de facto godparents” to her two children and supported her youngest through their queer and non-binary journey.
“They have flown to England and have always been there for my kids,” she said warmly. Name-dropping Kevin and Madison, she added, “They are the couple that have been together the longest in my life, and they have been there for me—they were here recently.”
Humorously reflecting on the love and companionship she has always received from the queer community, which has helped her allyship for her non-binary child, Goddard added during the interview, “Steve, the one thing I can’t get—they know Monroe Bergdorf [and others]... and my youngest thinks I should be a lesbian! They keep pointing out times in my life when I was ‘definitely wearing queer clothes’!”
For her ‘My Pride Playlist’, Goddard selected tracks from artists such as Katrina & The Waves and Nile Rogers.
