Two members of the highest level of English men’s football are reported to be in a relationship, an unrevealed source has told The Sun. It has been reported that the Premiere League team and management are aware, but the couple do not wish to disclose their identities publicly.

The source, who also wishes to remain anonymous, said, “They did not see the need to hide from their teammates – and why should they?” they said. “No one was remotely bothered about it, and they had the backing of the manager and the hierarchy at the club. But they decided not to come out publicly – although neither are ashamed and it could happen down the line," referencing the support from the team and management, and that the decision to not come out publicly was not made out of shame.
This follows from news reported by The Sun in October that an England Football player has made plans to come out in an upcoming television documentary, in opposition to the World Cup being held in Qatar, a country which holds extremely anti-LGBTQ+ laws, including imprisonment and, in some cases, the death penalty for gay men. As such, many have called for the World Cup to be hosted elsewhere in order to show solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community
Former footballer and sports broadcaster Gary Lineker recently revealed to the Daily Mirror that he knew of two gay premier league footballers, and that he wants them to come out publicly as a rejection towards Qatar’s inhuman laws.
“I know for a fact that some have been very close and contemplated it,” revealed Lineker. “There’s a couple I know, but obviously it’s not for me to say who they are.”
There has been no confirmation on the identity of the two footballers, nor the content of the upcoming television documentary featuring the discussion of LGBTQ+ representation in football. The World Cup is still being hosted in Qatar in late 2022.
