U.S.A. Olympic medalist comes out

Yared Nuguse, who earned a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics last summer, is now celebrating the love that likely played a significant role in his success—his relationship with his boyfriend.

Over the weekend, Nuguse, a member of Team U.S.A. at the Olympics, used Instagram to publicly share his relationship, essentially coming out, ‘Out Sports’ reports.

“Introducing my boyfriend, Julian,” Nuguse wrote in the heartwarming Instagram post, which featured several photos of the couple. “Can’t believe we’re already one year in my love.”

He also included a playful remark: “Don’t act so surprised.”

At the Paris Olympics last summer, Outsports identified 199 openly LGBTQ+ athletes competing, nearly two dozen of whom were men.

Yared Nuguse’s Instagram post received a lot of positive feedback.

Team USA Olympic runner Nikki Hiltz responded simply with, “Obsessed.”

Another openly gay distance runner in the U.S.A., Matt Llano, commented: “Love this – you will inspire so many!!!”

Olympic bobsledder Chris Kinney chimed in with, “Yay.”

During his college years, Nuguse ran for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In 2022, he broke a long-standing indoor record in the 3000-meter race and later placed ninth in the NCAA Championships for the same event.

Two years later, he clinched the national championship in the 3000-meter event. At the Paris Olympics, he secured a bronze medal, marking his place in history.

Now, he’s preparing for an exciting upcoming season, buoyed by several remarkable victories in the past year, as noted by one of his coaches.

Nuguse, who hails from Louisville, Ky., is the fourth of six children born to Ethiopian parents.

He is now creating his own family, beginning with his boyfriend, Julian, who is likely receiving numerous follow requests on his private Instagram profile. We wish them both abundant love and happiness.
