On Monday, Lord Herbert of South Downs, the Government's Special Envoy on LGBTQ+ Rights, held a meeting with key partners to set out his aims and ambitions for the upcoming 'Safe to be Me,' a global LGBTQ+ conference.
The Conference will focus on LGBTQ+ issues in three key areas: supporting decriminalization and legislative reform to advance equality and legal protections for LGBTQ+ people, tackling violence and discrimination and improving access to public services.

Lord Herbert said:
“I am excited by the potential of the 'Safe To Be' Conference which will bring together governments, civil society organizations, businesses and parliamentarians to agree how we can work together to drive forward LGBTQ+ rights, especially in the countries where the need is greatest.
“This will be a major international event which will also coincide with the 50th anniversary of London Pride. I believe we are stronger when we stand together, and that the UK has a powerful opportunity to act as a global force for good and help to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people worldwide.”
Full details of the conference have not yet been revealed but it is known that it will be delivered with the UK’s co-chair of the Equal Rights Coalition, Argentina, and Cyprus, co-chair of the Council of Europe’s LGBTI Focal Points Network.
