USA Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff made a stop at the Capital Pride celebrations today in Washington, D.C.
According to the Washington Blade‘s Chris Johnson, Harris is the first sitting Vice President of the United States to attend a Pride event.
Harris’s and Emhoff’s visit was not previously announced, but Harris wore a “love is love” tee shirt and pink blazer as she marched down a street.

“Happy Pride!” she said while waving to bypassers.
As ‘LGBTQ Nation’ reports, Harris stopped and spoke to a crowd at the celebrations, telling them that they need to continue pushing for the Equality Act.
“We need to make sure that our transgender community and our youth are all protected. We need, still, protections around employment and housing,” Harris said.
“There is so much more work to do, and I know we are committed.”
President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden are currently attending the G7 Summit in the United Kingdom.
