West Ham fined £120,000 for homophobic chants at Chelsea

West Ham has been fined £120,000 after conceding to a charge related to homophobic chanting during a match against Chelsea.

The team faced misconduct charges in March after their Premier League loss to Chelsea on February 3 at Stamford Bridge.

Upon admitting to the charge, an independent regulatory commission concluded that the club did not properly manage its supporters, resulting in the fine, according to ‘BBC’.

The commission determined that the chanting constituted a criminal offence.

West Ham stated that they have a zero-tolerance stance on discrimination and they “unequivocally condemn” all forms of offensive behaviour.

In 2023, the Football Association amended its regulations to make homophobic chanting a chargeable offence.
