The aim of the Bisi Alimi Foundation roundtable on Nigeria is to galvanize and mobilise multinationals businesses in the UK with presence in Nigeria to have a more informed knowledge about the state of LGBT rights in Nigeria with the hope of them taking a proactive policy on workplace equality.

The event will include a keynote speaker as well as a panel discussion. This year's topic will be a: Roadmap to making Lagos a safe city by 2023. Advancing workplace ethics around diversity and inclusion in challenging settings. This year's roundtable will count with the sponsoring and support of Baker McKenzie and myGwork.

In a 2017, a research by the foundation that sampled over 500 LGBT people in Nigeria found that over 20% of respondents said they had experienced discrimination at work because of their sexual orientation and gender identity. While this number seems high, we strongly believe that this is not the true state of things.

LGBT people in Nigeria experience a state of hypersensitivity when it comes to the workplace. Many are preoccupied with trying to keep their jobs in a country with high rate of unemployment and this means that sexuality can easily be a bases for blackmail and/or lose of jobs.

Multinational companies in Nigeria employ over 40% of the countries population and with a robust global policy on workplace diversity, inclusion and even further investment in workplace diversity ethics, we see an opportunity to engage with businesses to help them localize their global workplace diversity policy.
