We will enjoy meeting new people through practical exercises, explore how we can become more inclusive and embrace diversity. We will hear from organisations who are working on initiatives and have a chance to discuss in small groups. We will finish with a panel discussion.

Fiona Pattison - Senior Strategist at Open

Fiona Pattison is Senior Strategist, and for the last seven years has been working in a small London based agency who deliver creative and strategy for UK and overseas charities. Driven by the belief of a better world, she is motivated by the impact that her work has on the people who benefit from the efforts of the charities she works for.

Fiona started her fundraising career at Unicef UK and has more recently worked with non-profits including CRUK, Save the Children, the ACLU, The British Red Cross and BHF. Sophie Yates Lu - Programme Manager for Campaign Bootcamp

Campaign Bootcamp is a national campaigning and activism training organisation which runs residential 'Bootcamps' which give people the skills and tools to lead effective campaigns. At the heart of Bootcamp's mission is the belief that campaigns should be led by people who have direct experience of the issues they are seeking to tackle. Their Bootcamps have a range of scholarships for marginalised groups, including for BAME campaigners and migrants or refugees. Prior to this, Sophie worked for the economic campaigning organisation Positive Money. Talk: Young Trustees on Boards - Lived Experience

Mita Desai - The Challenge / Fearless Futures 
Mita is a social policy graduate who first signed up to a youth service when she was 16, since then she has been constantly inspired by the power that comes from young people finding their voice and passions. She was first elected onto the British Youth Council Board of trustees in 2012 and became Chair of the Board in 2015. She has mentored young people through working with PASS, Envision, the Fresh Air Fund, DebateMate and the National Citizen Service. She currently works for Fearless Futures managing a schools programme that runs equality and leadership programmes for girls in schools.

Will Fletcher - Diversity Role Models

Will has worked in a number of roles within youth and education charities and volunteering infrastructure. He’s currently Head of Operations at Diversity Role Models, a small charity that works with schools, supporting them to become more LGBT+ inclusive, and has also delivered training for voluntary organisations on including LGBT+ volunteers. He volunteers as Chair of Governors at a primary school in East London and is a trustee at his local Volunteer Centre.

Diversity Role Models actively seeks to embed inclusion and empathy in the next generation. Their vision is an inclusive education system where all students feel accepted, supported and encouraged to be themselves and thrive. They do this by creating safe spaces in schools where LGBT+ or ally role models speak openly about their lived experiences, so young people, staff, governors and parents can explore difference and consider their role in creating a world where we all feel accepted.

The Charity Meetup is a friendly event full of skills sharing, networking and fun, and all are welcome. The event was created by Dawn Newton, after noticing that there were lots of events but nothing which supported participants to network in a practical way through facilitated activities.
