Older LGBT+ people are much more likely to live alone without family support and so rely heavily on the understanding, care and support of health and social care professionals, charities and community workers who have contact with them. Yet research indicates that many who work with older people feel their own professional education has not equipped them with the knowledge and skills they need to engage with this vulnerable population, many of who have suffered a lifetime of social exclusion, discrimination and abuse.

Led by older LGBT+ facilitators, this interactive training workshop will enable participants to:

• Get the latest research into LGBT+ demographics, lifestyle and relationships

• Better understand the health and social care needs of older LGBT+ people in the City

• Appreciate the social history of exclusion that has shaped most older LGBT+ people’s lives

• Understand practical ways to engage with older LGBT+ people’s needs most effectively

• Take away free resources, video links and good practice guides to share with colleagues
