Macmillan LGBT Cancer Programme Merseyside Steering Group - First Meeting

Update

We've recieved a very positive response to the announcement of our first steering group. We've been overwhelmed with gratitude at how many people are keen to work with us on this project. As such, we have upgraded where we are hosting our first steering group meeting to a larger venue and pushed the time back slightly from the originally stated 11:30 to accomodate venue availability

Programme

The LGBT Cancer Programme is a Macmillan initiative hosted by Sahir House in Liverpool City Centre in Merseyside.

The LGBT Cancer Programme is designed to improve services and support to members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community who are affected or could be affected by cancer in Merseyside. The programme was set up in April 2018 and recognises that specific needs of LGBT people are not being addressed by mainstream cancer services.

Our project goal is to identify where these gaps are and by providing resources, training and support to help bridge these gaps and ensure that LGBT people in Merseyside are having their needs met at all stages of the cancer pathway. We also work with LGBT people who are living with or affected by cancer to learn about their experiences, amplify their stories and have that guide our project work

Steering Group

We are establishing a ‘Steering Group’ to bring together professionals from a variety of organisations and people affected by cancer to engage in this new opportunity of work designed to address this inequality and improve the outcomes for LGBT people living with or affected by cancer.

The steering group will play an instrumental part in the programme going forward, recognising the contributions from its members in providing resources and support to the development and progression of the project across the pilot year with the aim to empower others, individual and organisations supporting people on the front line affected by cancer and at a strategic level.

We will be convening our first steering group this September. We will then be meeting bi-monthly onwards in November, January and March. Our first meeting will be on September 25th in Conference Room 1 & 2 at the LCVS Building. We look forward to your input and to seeing you there!
