In celebration of Black History Month 2026 we warmly invite you to an inspiring evening of film, food and conversation.
Swim Sistas is a multi-award-winning short, visually rich documentary film, that explores swimming, sisterhood and intergenerational connection through the stories of four Black British women reclaiming their relationship with water.
Featuring the voice of Oscar-nominated Naomie Harris, and starring Olympic swimmer, Alice Dearing, Swim Sistas is both an intimate meditation and a wider cultural conversation, touching on identity, healing, and the importance of representation in spaces where Black women have historically been excluded.
This conversation is timely, according to the Black Swimming Association, 97% of Black Britons do not swim regularly. This statistic underlines the importance of this event and the film’s mission - to champion representation and inspire change within aquatic spaces and beyond.
The evening will include:
· Private Screening of Swim Sistas
· Panel discussion & audience Q&A featuring:
Catherine Joy White - Filmmaker, Forbes 30 under 30 and UN Gender Adviser
Alice Dearing - GB Olympic swimmer
Roni Bruno - 56-year-old first time swimmer
· African and Caribbean-inspired canapés and drinks, with an opportunity to mingle with the panellists and peers from the City
The film is currently on the international festival circuit and has already received significant recognition, including:
· Winner: Best Short Film - Kendal Mountain Festival
· Winner: Jury’s Choice Award - Thomas Edison Film Festival - Oscar-qualifying
· Official Selection: DOC NYC - Oscar & BAFTA qualifying
We very much hope you will join us for this powerful celebration of Black history and culture. We welcome you to invite a colleague from your race and ethnicity or relevant D&I networks. RSVP below.
