The RIBA East London Architect’s Group invites you to a free event to hear about the importance of the night time economy in the East.
As the mayors recent SPG “Culture and the night time economy” highlights London has 103 fewer nightclubs and live music venues than it did in 2007, losing pubs at a rate of 140 a year and London’s LGBT+ nightlife spaces have seen a recent intensity of closures, particularly the long-standing venues catering for women and BAME groups.
What does this mean for our city and what role can policymakers, designers, and developers play in turning this around?
The event will be held at the George Tavern Pub, a pub, arts and music venue that itself has seen the risk of closure.
This is a chance to hear from Amy Lame about her work with the GLA to save and improve London’s night Time economy. We will also hear from landlady Pauline Forster who has set up the “Save the George Tavern Campaign”.
