This event kindly hosted by Peter Kyle MP for Hove, will launch SafeLives’ latest report which focuses on the experiences of victims and survivors of domestic abuse who identify as LGBT+, and the multiple barriers they face when trying to access support. 

The research which SafeLives has produced in partnership with Stonewall and specialist LGBT+ domestic abuse charity Galop, shows that LGBT+ survivors are twice as likely to have attempted suicide, twice as likely to have experienced historic abuse by a family member and experience a higher prevalence of all abuse types (physical, sexual, stalking and harassment and coercive and controlling behaviour) than those who do not identify as LGBT+.

Falling before the closing period of the Gender Recognition Act Consultation and the draft of the Domestic Abuse Bill which we are expecting to be presented to Parliament in the Autumn, this timely event will ask how policy makers can protect LGBT+ people from domestic abuse and ensure that LGBT+ victims and survivors are made safe and given support to rebuild their lives.
