San Francisco Bay : Four Decades of an LGBT Free Press
The San Francisco Bay Times, the first newspaper for the gay community to be jointly and equally produced by LGBT women and men, is celebrating its 40th anniversary! It remains the only newspaper for the LGBT community in San Francisco that is 100% owned and operated by LGBT individuals.
This living-history panel will review San Francisco History from 1978 as covered in the pages of the paper. Among those who will take part in recounting memories and discussing the significance of the publication are:
- Founding news editor Randy Alfred- Founding production manager Susan Calico
- Founding contributor Cleve Jones
- Founding arts & entertainment editor M.J. Lallo
- Historian and current columnist Dr. Bill Lipsky and
- Former columnist and current San Francisco Supervisor Rafael Mandelman
A reception with the panelists from 6 pm–7 pm will precede the event.
