The Rainbow Conference is back for 2018. The SCC LGB&T Network has once again joined forces with Health, Wellbeing and Children's Services to deliver an even bigger FREE conference. Designed especially for anyone that works with children or young people in an educational capacity, including teachers, headteachers, governors, support workers etc. We are delighted to be supported by the University of Suffolk who will once again will be hosting the event.

This year our key note speaker is Andrew Moffat MBE, Assistant Headteacher at Parkfield Community School in Birmingham and author of "No Outsiders in our school: Teaching the Equality Act in Primary Schools". Alongside Andrew there will be a range of workshops covering all kinds of good practice when dealing with the question of inclusion.

We have listened to the feedback you provided from previous Rainbow Conferences and have provided more time for delegates to attend workshops.

Andrew Moffat: Following on from the keynote, Andrew’s workshop will demonstrate practical strategies, lesson plans and school assemblies that can be used to teach LGBT equality in context, as part of a whole school No Outsiders ethos.

LGBT Norfolk: Take a Walk in Our Shoes aims to raise the awareness faced by LGBT+ individuals either in schools, work or in their everyday private lives. Participants are invited to take part in the activities as well as a group discussion where we welcome any questions around LGBT+ awareness.

Manwar Ali: The founder and Chief Executive of Muslim educational charity JIMAS will be discussing and exploring SCC's Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE) award winning "Teaching Controversial Issues Toolkit". The toolkit seeks to promote the growth of mutual understanding between those of different religious beliefs, by giving confidence and offering practical guidance to local teachers with facing the nuances and challenges of delivering sensitive and controversial issues in the classroom.

Wolsey Theatre: Join us to discover how you can bring creativity into your classroom. Take part in a practical workshop which will include plenty of activities to motivate and challenge your students while developing interpersonal skills, confidence and team work alongside the exploration of difference, diversity and values.

Suffolk Virtual School: This workshop will provide an insight into the profile of children in care and how to develop inclusive practice to meet their needs within the classroom and the wider school setting.

The Colourbox Nurseries: Sandra Copping, who was recently awarded the prestigious title of Montessorian of the Year by the Montessori Schools Association, will be discussing how she supports children with additional needs including those who have English as an additional language within her setting.

SCC's Mental Health Team: Young people are experiencing more mental health distress than ever, whether that is anxiety, depression or some other problem. This workshop will explore how we promote good mental health and emotional wellbeing and also make it easier for children, young people and their parents/carers to talk about concerns when they arise in an open, confident way.

County Inclusion Support Service (CISS): Inclusion for students with Autistic Spectrum Conditions in mainstream secondary and primary schools and case studies of good practice from SENCos at Mildenhall College Academy, Newmarket Academy and Forest Academy.

The University of Suffolk's Atrium building is fully accessible with ramps and lifts - the main room is in a theatre layout, with space at the front for wheelchair access.
