The Purple List: a gay dementia venture

Hosted by SAND as part of our Grains of SAND Big Lottery Funded project, this is a 35 minute, one-man play appropriate to health & social care providers, LGBT communities, carers of people with dementia and everybody who is interested.

At The Hive, 5 Belmont, Shrewsbury SY1 1TE 2pm-5pm, incl SAND Update and Q & A.

The Purple List is endorsed by Skills for Care. In 2017 it played to over 1,200 people. This is its first outing in Shropshire. It opens on Sam and Derek’s wedding day and goes on to explore the highs and lows of their lives as Derek’s dementia progresses. Told from Sam’s point of view, the play is a touching, sad, yet often funny, insight into the lives of these two gay men as they navigate their way through the care system and the changes in their personal relationship.

The play raises awareness around the potential issues for those caring for someone with dementia in general, and the barriers to support which members of the gay community may perceive and experience. It will be preceded by an update on SAND's work to date and followed by a Q & A
