This session will provide an evidence-based framework for how to work effectively and respectfully with transgender youth and their families. Dr. Brady’s presentation will be experiential in nature by providing ample examples, clinical vignettes, opportunities for question and answer and paired discussion. The target audience is health professionals and administrators working in mental health organizations and youth serving organizations.

Participants will -
1. Become familiar with common terms/vocabulary used within transgender community
2. Understand the prevalence of mental health issues and health disparities among transgender youth
3. Learn about evidence based mental health treatments across development (early, middle, late childhood) as well as treatments shown to be ineffective and/or harmful to transgender youth

Dr. Brady is an Assistant Professor, University of Louisville School of Medicine, Assistant Chief Pediatric Consultation Liaison Service at Norton Children’s Hospital and Pediatric Psychologist at the Louisville-based Bingham Clinic.
