Upscaling professionals to be more responsive to LGBTIQ+ refugees’ needs

This free CPD accredited face-to-face training aims to increase knowledge and skills of professionals, ultimately building their capacity to better respond to the needs of LGBTIQ+ refugees.

It will include:

  • legal frameworks to understand refugee protection & why LGBTIQ+ people may need international protection;
  • introduction to SOGI Claims procedures (UK);
  • understanding of challenges relating to specific SOGI Claims
  • understanding the importance of support offered by and for LGBTIQ+ refugees/migrants

For who?

The introductive training is for professionals and volunteers who may come into contact with LGBTIQ+ refugees and migrants in their work capacity. Please note that it does not target professionals with high levels of expertise on these topics.

Who are the trainers?

Aderonke Apata – Human Rights Activist, Feminist, LGBT Equality Advocate and LGBTI asylum campaigner for LGBTI people seeking asylum in the UK; whom herself got granted asylum after a 13-year battle.
