London Book Fair
11 Apr 2018, 16:00 - 17:00
The Buzz Theatre
Dr Tony Ortega is a leading clinical psychologist based in New York. As the author of self-help book #IsHeHereYet, Dr Tony will open the discussion with the professional and personal experiences that went into this book, the writing process of incorporating big ideas, deep thinking into an accessible self-help book, before moving on to talk about how to write for an LGBT audience without making the book niche. Questions to be discussed include: how to write a book for LGBT readers without excluding, for example, women who are heterosexual, the challenges associated with writing for an LBGT audience, and the idea of not making it niche, 'boxed in' and specific. Other topics will include lessons learned, challenges overcome, advice for others writing for an LGBT audience but who don't want to make it too niche. There will also be an open Q&A session.
