World AIDS Day Red Run returns to London’s Victoria Park on 22 November 2025

Now more important than ever, the World AIDS Day RED RUN organized by Positive East returns to Victoria Park, London on 22 November 2025 – a 10k/5k charity fun run or 5k walk in support of HIV services across the UK.

The last weekend in November is now a date firmly fixed in the diary for the HIV community and its allies – a date reserved for the annual World AIDS Day RED RUN – where we mobilise to ‘take action and lace up’ in support of HIV services nationwide. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the strength and diversity of our community. A day where we can stand together in solidarity, collectively and publicly challenge HIV stigma and raise much needed funds to deliver essential HIV services to people across the UK.

East London HIV charity Positive East has organised the RED RUN annually since 2009. Over the past 16 years, it has grown from a few dozen people participating to become one of the UK’s largest community-based HIV events, welcoming thousands of walkers and runners from across the country each year. Since 2009, over £1.3m has been raised for a wide range of HIV charities and projects supporting diverse communities affected by HIV.

The RED RUN is open to all ages and abilities (including wheelchair users), with the focus on community over competition. In addition to the 5k/10k route through Victoria Park, the RED RUN Village anchors the event to create an experience that is more than just a run with exhibitions, charity tables, panels from the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt, DJs and entertainment.

Take Action and Lace Up in support of Positive East

Positive East has been at the forefront of HIV service and care for over three decades, supporting people from diagnosis to long-term care. Guided by its mission – to improve the quality of life of individuals and communities affected by HIV – the charity supports over 3,000 people annually through a holistic range of services including counselling, peer support, benefits advice, workshops, support groups, HIV/STI testing, prevention, and outreach. Positive East relies on the generosity of the community, and on funding raised through the RED RUN, to deliver these essential services across East London.

We’re Not Done Yet

We have mourned the loss of too many to HIV and AIDS, however the shadow of fear and hopelessness that HIV and AIDS once cast across our communities, is now starting to fall behind us. We are in an era of tangible progress. Ground has been broken. U=U, undetectable = untransmittable is fact, meaning that if you’re HIV positive and have an undetectable viral load, it is biologically impossible to pass the virus on sexually. We now have an HIV prevention pill - PrEP.

However, amongst this good news, the challenge remains that not everyone and not all communities are benefiting. HIV stigma is still a reality and there are far too many people undiagnosed or diagnosed late. As long as HIV support and prevention services are needed, the World AIDS Day RED RUN will remain.
