About SF LGBT Center

The mission of the SF LGBT Center is to connect our diverse community to opportunities, resources and each other to achieve our vision of a stronger, healthier, and more equitable world for LGBT people and our allies.

Our four priorities are to:

• Foster greater opportunities for people to thrive;
• Organize for our future;
• Celebrate our history and culture;
• Build resources to create a legacy for future generations.

Community Programs

Often the first stop for newcomers to the City, including LGBTQ youth and people experiencing homelessness, the Center’s Information & Referral (I&R) program Staff and Volunteers at our Welcome Desk help connect 2,500+ walk-in community members with screened, trusted, and culturally competent resources ranging from housing to health services. The full-service Cyber Center has provides 600 hours of free internet access via nine computers, free internet access, printing, and free educational programs.

Youth Programs: The Center’s Youth Services program puts LGBTQ youth 16-24 and younger on a path to connection and stability.

Our purpose is to build a strong queer youth community through education, creative and performing arts, fabulous community events and 30+ hours of youth drop-in services weekly. The Center provides a safe, fun, and confidential space for LGBTQ youth ages 16-24 to hang out, access resources, and find community. We also provide referrals and service navigation, mental health services, a weekly meal night, and youth leadership development

Arts: The Center offers a stimulating environment where LGBT artists can display or perform their work, share cultural traditions with the community, and tell their uniquely diverse stories.

In a changing landscape where both individual artists and art organizations are increasingly being driven out of San Francisco by rising rental costs, the Center occupies a powerful position to hold space for community-centered programming. Focusing on youth, elders, people of color, women, people with disabilities, newcomers to San Francisco, and people with HIV, the Center showcases a diversity of experiences in film, poetry, dramatic and visual arts.

Employment Services: We see employment as a basic right for LGBTQ individuals in order for them to increase financial health and build assets over time.

LGBTQ job-seekers face a unique set of challenges due to the threat of workplace discrimination and intolerance. The Center works to make this experience as painless as possible by offering services including resume review, mock interviews, job fairs, and ongoing employment workshops. To this end, we offer a range of services, events, and workshops tailored to support participants’ job searches, to offer networking opportunities with potential employers and to connect to further training opportunities.
